In 2017, Shirley, the owner’s wife—originally from Hunan, China—transformed the Sei Bar Wakefield location into the first restaurant in Massachusetts to offer authentic Hunan cuisine, with the full support of her Taiwanese husband Chef Lin Thanks to the enthusiastic support and appreciation from our customers, we proudly opened Spicy Hunan Kitchen in Woburn in late March 2022, following a years-long renovation.
We hope our uncompromising commitment to true Hunan flavors not only satisfies your appetite but also brings you a sense of comfort—like a taste of home, even when you're far from it.

Owner
Born in Taiwan, Chef Lin is a second-generation Asian chef with over 30 years of culinary experience specializing in sushi, Chinese, and Asian fusion cuisine. In 2003, he founded Sei Bar in Medford and later expanded the concept to Everett, Wakefield, and Woburn, building a loyal following through his creativity, consistency, and dedication to quality.
Owner's Wife
Originally from Hunan, China, Shirley has a deep love for Hunan cuisine—its bold flavors and rich culinary heritage have inspired her to share it with others who appreciate authentic regional food. Her passion for cooking began at home and naturally grew into a mission to bring real Hunan flavors to a wider audience.
Before dedicating herself fully to the restaurant business, Shirley spent 13 years working in global IT and online media. She holds an M.S. in Information Systems from Northeastern University and an M.A. in Linguistics from Hunan University in China.

Inspired by the bold, authentic flavors of Hunan cuisine and the fresh local ingredients found in the Boston area, our menu offers a diverse selection of dishes that highlight the essence of 湘菜 (Hunan food). From fiery quick stir-fries to handcrafted street food favorites, each dish is prepared with care, tradition, and just the right amount of spice. Whether you're craving the deep heat of 双椒鱼片 (chopped chili fish fillets), the rich flavor of 红烧肉 (Braised pork belly), or the smoky, savory bite of our house-made bean curd and smoke pork (香干炒腊肉), there's something for every Hunan food lover to enjoy.

Our spacious dining area seats over 200 guests, and we offer a private function room for up to 20 people—perfect for birthdays, business dinners, or group gatherings.
Reservations are highly recommended for parties of 6 or more.
